Man Utd legend Scholes shunned reunion with Beckham and Co at Salford play-off final to play in celebrity XI as tribute to late coach
Salford beat AFC Fylde 3-0 to secure a place in the Football League for the first time in their history
PAUL SCHOLES shunned the chance to watch the club he part owns reach the Football League to pay tribute to a late coach.
While the rest of the Class of 92 was at Wembley toasting Salford City's success, the Manchester United legend tuned in at an amateur side's clubhouse.
Scholes, 44, missed the Ammies' glory day as he had committed to play in a celebrity XI at Oldham outfit Springhead.
The ex-England midfielder teamed up with Pete Wild, who succeeded him as manager of Oldham, to help mark the legacy of Ricky Casey.
Casey who played and managed Springhead died of a rare form of kidney cancer earlier this month.
So while Gary and Phil Neville, David Beckham and Nicky Butt looked on as their investment in Salford paid off, Scholes was raising funds for cancer charities.
And onlookers said he just watched Salford's 3-0 win over AFC Fylde in the National League Play-Off Final on a big screen at Springhead's base.
Scholes also lined up alongside Coronation Street stars Harry Visinoni and Callum Harrison in the match, along with Love Island's Simon Searles on Saturday.
A spokesman for Manchester League side Springhead, who play near where he lives, described him as "an absolute legend and a gentleman."
