Mourinho baffled Woodward signed Lukaku but not Perisic for Man Utd
The Belgian international moved to Old Trafford from Everton at Mourinho's request, but he wanted a winger to provide service for the striker
MANCHESTER UNITED chief Ed Woodward angered Jose Mourinho by signing Romelu Lukaku without adding a winger, according to reports.
Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward shelled out £75million to sign Lukaku from Everton in 2017.
But as Mourinho wanted additional attacking options to mount a title challenge he told the club he also needed a winger to provide service for his new big-money striker.
The ex-United boss identified winger Ivan Perisic as the man to provide the ammunition for Lukaku.
However, the Inter Milan whizz never arrived.
The reckon Mourinho was baffled when Woodward said no to the Croatian moving to Old Trafford.
Inter were holding out for £50m for Perisic, but United refused to budge on their £47m bid.
Woodward reportedly did not think Perisic was a marketable enough player to generate revenue and pulled the plug on the deal.
Mourinho gave an interesting response when asked about the winger as Croatia progressed to the World Cup final in Russia.
He told Russia TV: "Perisic, he went from Croatia to Dortmund to Wolfsburg to Inter.
“I don’t know why he didn't come to Manchester when I wanted him.”
