Solskjaer cruised into Carrington through the back entrance in his silver Volvo 4x4 at 7:55am.

His struggling side are slumped in sixth in the Premier League after losing seven of their last ten matches.

But the 46-year-old still managed to smile for the cameras as he arrived ahead of Sunday's clash against Huddersfield.

He is expected to have a huge summer clear-out at Old Trafford before he brings in some fresh faces for next season.

TOP TARGETS

Solskjaer has already stepped up his interest in Benfica midfielder Felix and Sporting star Fernandes, according to the

But it is understood that the Portuguese pair could be reluctant to join the Reds as they look set to miss out on a Champions League spot.

United also face competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid for Felix, who has 14 goals in 23 league appearances this season.

The 19-year-old has been labelled "the next Cristiano Ronaldo" following his sublime spell in the Primeira Liga.

Benfica would be reluctant to let their star man leave this summer, but United could lure him away for around £100m.

Fernandes would fill the void in United's midfield with Ander Herrera and Juan Mata set to leave.

The 24-year-old, who was previously linked to Liverpool, has scored 16 goals and made 12 assists this season.

United have games against Huddersfield and Cardiff left to play in the league before Solskjaer's spending can begin.

The odds are against him, but Solskjaer has urged his players not to give up on their dream of finishing in the top four.

He said: "I don't think we can give up until it's theoretically over, but of course it's a big mountain to climb. We need to focus on these last two games, do our best for ourselves, win games and see what the other games throw up."
