Ex-PSG star Ben Arfa parades trophy in face of club’s owner after billionaire snubs his handshake after shock French Cup final

HATEM BEN ARFA’s history with Paris Saint-Germain was clear for all to see when the club’s chairman refused to shake his hand after the French Cup final.

Rennes shocked PSG with a penalty shootout victory on Saturday night, capping a comeback from two goals down with Kylian Mbappe sent off for the favourites.

It allowed Ben Arfa to parade the trophy in front of Les Parisiens chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who he had fallen out with during a two-year spell at the club.

Joining on a free transfer from Nice in 2016, the former Newcastle hero failed to meet expectations in the first season before being exiled the following year.

When going up to collect his winners medal, Ben Arfa exchanged words with Al-Khelaifi and the Qatari media mogul initially refused to shake his hand, before appearing to do so and quickly moving on to the next Rennes player.

Speaking after the game, Ben Arfa highlighted what he perceived as the ill treatment he received at PSG.

He also joked about the capital club’s pattern of comebacks, namely the famous 6-1 “remontada” – Spanish for “comeback” – they suffered at Barcelona in 2017.

“We pulled off a remontada but PSG are used to that,” he told reporters post-match.

“I have nothing against the club, just those in charge.”

Ben Arfa likened the plight of Adrien Rabiot, the midfielder refusing to sign a new contract and consequently outcast from the side, to his time at PSG.

He continued: “The result gave me incredible emotions.

“It’s special, especially regarding president Nasser.

“You should never underestimate your opponent in life. One day or another, he will come back stronger.”

“One day, like me, Adrien Rabiot will come up against PSG.”
