PAUL POGBA and David de Gea are pushing for massive pay rises amid fears they could be hit in the pocket if Manchester United fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
If United are not playing in Europe’s elite club competition next term, all squad members including Pogba and De Gea will see their money automatically cut by 25 per cent.
The win over West Ham last Saturday sees Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side trail fourth-place Arsenal by two points with five games remaining.
Pogba, 25, earns £220,000 a week while De Gea, 28, takes home about £200,000 a week.
United have qualified for the Champions League every season since Pogba returned to the club in 2016 so the France midfielder has not suffered the indignity of a pay cut.
However, De Gea experienced one in the 2016-17 season when they were in the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
United will not remove the clause from their players’ contracts.
