Bolton will begin next season in the third tier having lost 14 of their past 18 matches.

This is the 15th time Wanderers have been relegated in their history - only Grimsby and Notts County have been relegated more often within the Football League since it began.

SunSport told you earlier this week how Laurence Bassini had agreed a takeover at the troubled club.

The ex-Watford supremo has agreed to take Ken Anderson's shares and inherit his huge list of debts.

The deal was only clinched following Anderson's U-turn on Bolton's future as he ran out of funds to run it.

Relegation caps off a terrible time for Bolton's stars and their fans.

The players have still not been paid this month and the club has come to within a whisker of administration.

They also held a 48-hour strike earlier this month on behalf on non-playing staff in protest over unpaid wages, with the club twice appearing in the High Court after being issued a winding-up petition.

Bolton will appear again on May 8 having been granted an adjournment.
