Man Utd target Jan Oblak agrees new five-year Atletico Madrid deal… but suitors will not be put off by £103m release clause
Should David De Gea shock Old Trafford and finally leave for Real Madrid this summer, Oblak could be the replacement
MANCHESTER UNITED target Jan Oblak has agreed a new five-year deal with Atletico Madrid.
And any clubs who fancy making a move for the goalkeeper will have to stump up a whopping £103million to land him.
It is believed Oblak was a potential target for United if David De Gea doesn’t sign his new contract.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of De Gea, and with Courtois failing to shine since his summer move, Los Blancos could be back in for a No1.
And while United are hopeful that De Gea will agree a new deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as boss, nothing has been agreed as yet.
If he does leave, United would have to break the world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper to bring in Oblak.
Chelsea paid £75m for custodian Kepa from Athletic Bilbao in the summer to replace the aforementioned Courtois.
DEFENDER WANTED
Meanwhile United fans want the club to move for another star well-and-truly announced on the world stage – Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The centre-half led his team to a stunning 2-1 victory over the Serie A giants Juventus on Tuesday to dump them out the Champions League, scoring the winning goal with a thunderous header.
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has admitted De Ligt will certainly leave Amsterdam this summer, with Barcelona being the most likely destination.
Premier League giants, including Manchester United and Liverpool, have understandably been monitoring his situation.
And seeing the defender in action yesterday, Red Devils fans have pleaded with United chiefs to do whatever it takes in order to sign De Ligt – even if it means making him skipper.
Scott wrote: “Why aren’t United being linked with De Ligt every single day…. Literally should come in and be our captain.”
Meanwhile, Edu tweeted: “United should sign De Ligt. At all costs.”
Phil added: “I’ve officially flip flopped from Koulibaly or Varane to de Ligt as my ultimate centre-back signing.”
And Usy wrote: “What are you waiting for ManUtd go and get de ligt for us…”
