Man Utd fans terrified as Phil Jones lines up at right-back against Barcelona
The 27-year-old has often been praised by managers for his jack of all trades ability but supporters aren't impressed
MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left terrified by the news that Phil Jones will start their crunch Champions League game against Barcelona at right-back.
The much-maligned centre-back has been shunted out-wide after Luke Shaw's suspension forced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to change the side that beat West Ham.
The 27-year-old, who returned to the Red Devils' starting eleven for the 2-1 victory, failed to emerge from the clash unscathed after a collision with Declan Rice.
Now Man United fans are struggling to believe Jones will emerge from the Nou Camp unscathed with the England star set to face Lionel Messi while out-of-position.
One fan wrote: "Phil Jones and Ashley Young as full backs in the Nou Camp just isn’t acceptable. Really hope this tweet comes back to bite me!"
Another tweeted: "A clear illustration of Man Utd’s decline, playing Barcelona with Jones as right back and Young as left back. Neither should be in the squad next season."
The Old Trafford club are currently trailing by a solitary goal from the first leg and Victor Lindelof is restored to the defence having been rested at the weekend.
Scott McTominay, who stole the show in Manchester when the two sides met last week, retains his starting berth in an unchanged midfield with Paul Pogba and Fred.
Romelu Lukaku drops to the bench with the attacking impetus left to Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial to lead the line with Jesse Lingard in behind.
