Chelsea fans blast Gonzalo Higuain’s tame Liverpool cameo with Olivier Giroud left on bench

Argentine striker came on for final half an hour but made little impact as Blues crashed to 2-0 defeat

CHELSEA fans have blasted Gonzalo Higuain’s torrid cameo against Liverpool, with many questioning Maurizio Sarri’s decision to leave Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to leave their top four hopes in doubt.

But it was the introduction of Higuain from the bench which caused panic amongst the travelling fans.

Both he and Giroud were left on the bench as Sarri fielded Hazard as a false nine.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was then sacrificed for Higuain in the 55th minute.

But the Argentine had a tough time leading the line, misplacing passes and running into cul-de-sacs.

His performance prompted supporters to take to Twitter to express their frustration.

And many also questioned why in-form Giroud was left to watch from the Liverpool sideline instead.

One wrote: “If Higuain is the answer, what is the question?”

One tweeted: “Even if we have a ban, not sure I can stomach another season of Gonzalo Higuain.”

Another noted: “Higuain is worthless, Giroud should’ve started and he should come on instead.”

One added: “Giroud. Doesn’t touch the pitch and comes to clap the fans. He knows he should’ve come on.”
