Ajax boss reveals there’s ‘no chance’ De Ligt stays as he picks between Barca and Bayern
Several Premier League teams have monitored the teenager but now appear to be missing out on his capture
BARCELONA or Bayern Munich are set to snap up Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to club boss Erik ten Hag.
The centre-back has enjoyed an excellent campaign in Amsterdam, his team leading the Eredivisie on goal difference ahead of the weekend's games and up against Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals.
But his time with Ajax is coming to an end, as confirmed by ten Hag - and he has his pick of two major destinations.
Speaking to German newspaper Suddeutschen Zeitung, the Ajax coach said: "There's zero chance Matthijs de Ligt is staying at Ajax.
"There are so many clubs interested in him.
"He will leave us this summer, but I don't know whether he will join Bayern or Barcelona."
EARLY BIRD GETS DE WORM
De Ligt broke into the Ajax team at the tender age of 16, scoring on his debut before becoming a first-team regular.
In 2018, he won the prestigious Golden Boy award previously dished out to Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.
Subsequently, he has earned the interest of several major European giants, with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu reportedly flying to the Netherlands for talks last month.
