HARRY KANE left the stadium on crutches, wearing a protective boot as Spurs fear he could miss the rest of the season following Tottenham’s Battle of Britain showdown.

The striker appeared to roll his left ankle as he went in heavily on Manchester City’s Fabian Delph in the 55th minute - and had to be helped off down the tunnel by his club's coaching stuff.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who saw Son Heung-min snatch a 78th-minute winner in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, said: “I am worried he will miss the rest of the season.

"It doesn’t look good. If you see the action, it shows he twisted his ankle and maybe damaged the ligaments again.

“We will check in the next few days. It is so painful but what can we do?

“We hope it’s not a big issue and he can recover as soon as possible.”

Kane managed to limp off the pitch before two of Tottenham’s coaching staff helped carry him down the tunnel.

He was then seen leaving the stadium on crutches, wearing a protective boot.

Spurs fear a repeat of the ligament damage he suffered when he injured the same ankle against Manchester United on January 13.

That kept the Three Lions skipper out of action for five weeks — and a repeat would see him miss the rest of the domestic campaign.

The England hitman is also a doubt for the Nations League semi-final against Holland on June 6.

VAR CONTROVERSY

With Spurs still battling it out for a spot in the Premier League's top four - as well their European dreams - Mauricio Pochettino now has limited options.

Son Heung-min may be forced into a more central role, with Moura starting out wide.

Alternatively, Tottenham could start with Fernando Llorente for their crucial upcoming games.

Earlier in the game, VAR reared its ugly head once more after City were controversially awarded a penalty for a perceived handball by Danny Rose.

After an eternity of checking, referee Bjorn Kuipers blew the whistle and pointed to the spot - despite minimal protestations from City players.

Sergio Aguero stepped up to take the spot kick with only Hugo Lloris in his way - and both players enjoying very different seasons.

However, Lloris the underdog pulled off a superb save to deny the red-hot Argentine and keep the score at 0-0.
