Peter Odemwingie retires with QPR car park saga the highlight of his career… but striker sees the funny side
The Nigeria international is hanging up his boots after a 14-year career that took him to West Brom, Cardiff and Stoke
PETER ODEMWINGIE has hung up his boots, six years after the most famous failed transfer in football.
The 37-year-old former West Brom, Stoke and Cardiff forward finished at Indonesian side Madura United but has not kicked a ball since 2017.
And he has decided to call it a day, six years after he drove to QPR’s training ground believing he was moving from West Brom… only to be told the clubs hadn’t agreed a fee.
Odemwingie scored 36 Premier League goals in six seasons at the Baggies, Cardiff and the Potteries.
His journeyman career also took him to Russia’s Premier League with Lokomotiv Moscow and Lille, where he played in the Champions League.
Odemwingie also scored for Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup, in a 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hopefully I will be coaching in the Premier League one day
Peter Odemwingie
He was at Uefa’s Equal Game conference at Wembley on Wednesday.
Odemwingie said: “It’s an emotional day, so many memories go through your head.
“I didn’t know how to do it or where to do it, but I think this is the right place to do it.
“Wembley is a place with a lot of history in football.”
The front-man is looking to get into coaching next.
He told Sky Sports: “The next chapter is slowly building up to a coaching career and hopefully I will be coaching in the Premier League one day.”
