Converted Chelsea fans rave about Jorginho ‘spraying passes like perfume’ after booing him earlier this season
Midfielder put in a superb performance as he pulled strings in 3-0 win over Brighton
CHELSEA fans performed amassive U-turn last night as they flocked to hail Jorginho after the win over Brighton.
The Italian put in a midfield masterclass as he orchestrated the 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Olivier Giroud, Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all got on the scoresheet as Maurizio Sarri fielded a new-look side.
But it was Jorginho who posted the most impressive numbers of the night as he pulled the strings in the centre of the park.
The Italy international had 169 touches and made 161 passes.
Jorginho had a passing accuracy of 94.4 per cent, and not all of them were sideways.
JORGEOUS
Some 85 of his 161 passes went forward successfully, while 62 found their target in the final third.
And 28 of Jorginho’s passes found their way perfectly to superstar Hazard, Chelsea’s prime attacking outlet.
And the former Napoli man even recorded two key passes – aka “assists to the assist”.
Jorginho was also ruthless in the defensive phase, regaining possession no less than ten times.
The 27-year-old won 18 duels and made two interceptions as well.
TURNAROUND
Jorginho has come under heavy criticism from many supporters during his debut season, with some even booing him at times and branding him a “teacher’s pet”.
But playing with more dynamic teammates brought the best out of the Brazilian-born ace.
And Jorginho’s performance saw floods of the “Sarri-out” brigade come rushing back to sing his praises, with many perhaps starting to understand his role and purpose on the field.
One fan said: “Man of the match is Jorginho, spraying passes like perfume.”
Another wrote: “Isn’t it crazy that he puts in a masterclass when he has the right quality of players around him? Been unfairly scapegoated all season, put some respect to his name.”
One tweeted: “I wish people would leave Jorginho alone. Just put the highlights on and in the first 30 seconds I saw 2 quality passes from him.”
Another noted: “Haven’t seen many praise his performances or say he was unlucky but I guarantee next time we lose people will be on his back saying he doesn’t create anything.”
