FULHAM were handed a major boost following their relegation from the Premier League - with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Tom Cairney "hoping to stay".
Scott Parker's side finally succumbed to their fate and slipped back to the Championship after a sole season back in the big-time after a 4-1 defeat at Watford.
Fulham's all-time record goal-scorer Gordon Davies softened the blow though by claiming he knows fan-favourites Cairney and Mitrovic are set to stay this summer.
Davies told Love Sport Radio: "I was talking to somebody on Saturday and I know it's hearsay but he is a family friend of the Cairneys.
"As far as he was aware, [Cairney's] father says that he is going nowhere and he's is staying next year.
"The other rumour I heard was that Mitrovic is staying. That would be great from a supporter's point of view."
While the double-boost will certainly help Parker set up his team for next season - should he keep his job - there are far more issues to consider.
Fulham may have spent big last summer, bringing in the likes of Jean Michael Seri, but they were smart about it too.

WAGE DROP
A hoard of players had relegation clauses inserted into their contracts - meaning the Cottagers' wage bill is set to tumble next season.
Incredibly, the total bill will drop from around £70million to just £28m - while the club will receive a £43m parachute payment.
The decrease in wages is also helped by the return of loan players to their parent clubs - with the likes of Andre Schurrle, Calum Chambers and Sergio Rico on big money.
Fulham may well need to reinvest to survive what is always a long, hard scrap in the Championship next season.
But the financial buffers put in place should help them do just that.
With their season over, club chiefs will now turn their attention to deciding what to do with their current, permanent players.
Premier League clubs are certain to come knocking for the likes of Ryan Sessegnon in a cut-price deal - as well as a hatful of other stars, including Seri.
We take a look at which players Fulham may well part with - and who they will cling on to - this summer...
GOALKEEPERS
MARCUS BETTINELLI – STAY
HARSHLY lost place between the sticks, despite being deemed good enough to make the England squad at one stage.
The club will need to show him some love this summer, but Bettinelli will likely stay.
SERGIO RICO – GO
THE loan is over and the recent blunders will be fans' enduring memory of him.
Over to Bettinelli now back in the second-tier - and supporters won't exactly be upset about that.
FABRI – GO
TOTALLY useless would be something of an understatement after signing a three-year deal last summer.
Fulham will undoubtedly look to sell and find a new back-up for Bettinelli.
DEFENCE
DENIS ODOI – STAY
OUT of contract this summer, Odoi has become a favourite amongst fans and has been a sensible voice amidst the troubles this season.
Clubs will be sniffing around, but the Cottagers are likely to battle hard to keep him.
CALUM CHAMBERS – GO
ANOTHER loanee set to leave, Chambers will now head back to Arsenal and look to break into their first XI - possibly as a defensive midfielder after thriving in the position at Fulham.
He could be approached on another short-term deal - but both Chambers and the Gunners will want top-flight football.
TIM REAM – STAY
THE ultimate inbetweener, Ream is an absolute rock in the Championship - but perhaps not at the level of the Premier League.
The extra speed, strength and overall physicality was just too much at times this season.
HAVARD NORDTVEIT – GO
A SHORT-TERM gamble that didn't pay off.
Nordveit was only signed until the end of the season - and you can't see club chiefs having another crack in the Championship.
MAXIME LE MARCHAND – STAY
SIGNED last summer – few will be interested in signing him after a string of costly errors throughout the season.
That said, he could still be a part in Fulham's 2019-20 plans.
TIMOTHY FOSU-MENSAH - GO
THE Manchester United loanee will head to back to Old Trafford this summer.
It's fair to assume Fulham may go back in for the defender on another loan deal, but United are likely to want him to be playing Premier League football.
CYRUS CHRISTIE – STAY
HE'S a certainty to stay after penning a long-term deal in West London.
Christie has found it tricky at times, but a year in the second-tier could do wonders for his confidence.
JOE BRYAN – STAY
THE full-back joined last summer from Bristol City - where he absolutely excelled in the Championship the season prior.
Back in the second-tier, Bryan will be hoping to recapture his 2017-18 form.
ALFIE MAWSON – IN THE BALANCE
SIGNED last summer for big money, Mawson hardly played though due to injury.
It's possible the ex-Swansea star might seek a way out - but at this stage almost owes the club a season of his talents though.
MIDFIELD
KEVIN McDONALD – STAY
HE was a key member of the team that earned promotion in the first place.
He may have struggled to get minutes in the Premier League, but look for him to break back into the team in the Championship.
TOM CAIRNEY – IN THE BALANCE
THE captain has flirted with leaving before and an injury-plagued season has seen him struggle to be at his best this season.
A few clubs will almost certainly be interested - but the latest reports are that Cairney will be staying.
JEAN MICHAEL SERI – GO
EXPECTATIONS were high after his mega-money move last summer - it's fair to say Seri turned into a Fulham flop this season.
Having been linked with Barcelona a year ago won’t want to play in the Championship - but very few fans would miss him.
ANDRE-FRANK ZAMBO AGUISSA – IN THE BALANCE
THE club's record buy in last summer's incredible outlay, he really struggled this season.
That said, he could be a force in Championship - if he decides he wants to stay, that is.
LAZAR MARKOVIC – GO
A BIZARRE short-term signing in January, the ex-Liverpool man is already out of contract this summer.
It would be a complete shock to fans if he were to stay on next season.
ATTACK
ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC – STAY
THE star striker signed a fresh contract last summer with Fulham having absolutely no need to sell the one man who could fire them straight back to the Prem.
The only problem for Fulham chiefs would be that one big offer could well turn his head.
NEESKENS KEBANO – GO
OUT of contract this summer and a bit-part player at best - Kebano's time at Fulham appears to be over.
Kebano is another fans would be surprised lining up in club colours in the Championship next term.
RYAN SESSEGNON – IN THE BALANCE
ONCE the hottest young talent in England, Sessegnon struggled to recapture his form from last season in the Premier League.
He has just one year left on his current deal, which could force Fulham to sell instead of letting him go for free next summer.
Sessegnon might just need that one more season back in the second-tier to boost his confidence and prove he has a Premier League - and England - future.
FLOYD AYITE – IN THE BALANCE
HE proved he could find the back of the net last season in the Championship - and Fulham will need that again.
Ayite is out of contract in the summer, but Fulham will at least consider offering him a new deal.
RYAN BABEL – GO
He joins Markovic in being an ex-Liverpool forward to sign a bonkers, ultra-short deal in January.
Babel has looked sharp in fits and spurts but will have no intention of dipping into the second tier next season.
ANDRE SCHURRLE – GO
THE GERMAN ex-Chelsea star signed a two-year loan deal last summer - but has been wildly inconsistent this season.
Schurrle has already publicly cited his desire to get out of Fulham - and fast - and absolutely won't be on the books next season, you'd think.
LUCIANO VIETTO – GO
THE loan's over, the time at Fulham is over - and back to Atletico Madrid goes lightweight Vietto.
He's highly unlikely to join permanently or even sign another loan deal after a season like this.
