Man Utd to unveil huge banner to officially welcome Solskjaer… an honour not given to Mourinho, Moyes or Van Gaal

The Red Devils plan to honour their new manager with a gesture never shown to any of their recent bosses

MANCHESTER UNITED will unveil a huge banner to officially welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the club despite never giving the honour to their previous bosses.

The banner will be passed over fans' heads in the lower tier of the Stretford End as the players walk out before their Premier League clash with Watford.

United fans were contacted by the club and asked to take their seats early "to celebrate the announcement of our new manager".

The Sun understands this is the first gesture of its kind to be extended to a new manager since Sir Alex Feguson's departure which shows the feel-good-factor surrounding the 46-year-old's appointment.

Different to before

Solskjaer was handed a permanent three-year-deal on Thursday after notching 14 wins from 19 games during his spell as caretaker boss.

But the news will be perceived as a snub to former bosses Jose Mourinho, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal none of whom received such a welcome from the club.

Man United text sent to fans

Van Gaal recently criticised Solskjaer and Mourinho for their "park-the-bus" style of play in a scathing attack that prompted Gary Neville to leap to his former teammate's defence.

Neville also said the managerial merry-go-round at Old Trafford since Ferguson left had "not worked".

However, this latest gesture by the club is yet another way in which this appointment feels different to before for the Red Devils.
