Alaba is regarded as one of the best defenders in world football.

And he could arrive as competition for Jordi Alba, who recently signed a new long-term contract.

Alaba is also able to play as a central midfielder and even a No 10, with Barcelona ready to pay big for his versatility.

Bayern are possibly open to selling too, with a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Lucas Hernandez reportedly close to completion.

Arsenal fan Alaba has been playing in Bavaria since 2008, having joined as a youngster from Austria Wien.

The 26-year-old has since won seven Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and the 2013 Champions League.

But Alaba admits he could be tempted by a new challenge, saying: “I am aware that some day I will have to make a decision but I still feel good here.

“But I can also imagine myself taking a different path, taking another step or seeking a new challenge.

“I’m leaving it all open. I have goals this season I want to reach. That is why there’s no room for those thoughts at this moment.”
