MANCHESTER UNITED centre-back Victor Lindelof is at the centre of a police probe after being sent hate messages and threats when he snubbed Sweden duty.
Lindelof withdrew from the national team's squad to face Romania and Norway due to personal reasons, with his wife Maja Nilsson due to give birth in early April.
Lindelof - who joined the Red Devils in 2017 from Benfica - has been one of United's standout players this season, with the 24-year-old featuring in 33 games in all competitions.
According to , the Swedish FA have been forced to call in cops after the defender was bombarded with abuse on social media.
While RB Leipzig playmaker Emil Forsberg has also been targeted online after he left Sweden's camp following a reported bust-up with boss Janne Andersson.
Martin Fredman - Sweden's FA security chief - said: "We are aware that players have received threats and hatred. We have contacted the police.
"This started when 'Vigge' [Lindelof] submitted a refusal. Of course we follow up on threats and violations.
"We have had a number of them sent to us, and we will see if they have been sent to the players.
";We have a plan, and things are under control.
"We will speak to the players after the international get-together."

While Swedish police commissioner Fredrik Gardare added: "Something has happened to one or more players regarding unauthorised influence and possibly threats.
"We have been warned about it by the Swedish FA, and they will return to it after the matches have been played.
"We await more information."
