Sarri has to throw Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi in to save Chelsea season
Failure to beat Wolves saw the Blues blow a golden chance to boost top four hopes and it is time Chelsea boss turns to the double-barrel stars to get results
REACHING for a double-barrel is rarely the solution to provide positive results.
But in Chelsea’s case, with surnames at least, it is growing increasingly important for them to do just that.
Maurizio Sarri was forced to turn to Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi in his bid to get something out of a dreary display against Wolves.
Sarri has claimed in the past few days that it is particularly ‘dangerous’ to place too much pressure on the young shoulders of winger Hudson-Odoi who is still only 18 but yet the kid every Chelsea fan wants to watch.
We might be getting to the point where it is far more risky NOT to give his young, home-grown lads more game time as the season stutters along.
Chelsea blew a massive chance to gain ground on Tottenham with this home draw against the team from the Black Country.
They could have found themselves within two points of their bitterest rivals who themselves succumbed at Southampton 24 hours earlier.
Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek got 29 and 34 minutes respectively and Chelsea were a much better team once they did get on.
Sarri has complained his players are jaded, they are leggy from playing on Thursday night in the Europa League and still feeling the ingrained fatigue from extra time in the Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City at the end of February.
With six changes to the starting line up against Dynamo Kiev it’s a hard excuse to buy.
But if that’s so then Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi should be more involved.
Chelsea had more shots on target, won more free kicks on the edge of the Wolves box and were altogether more threatening with these two on instead of off.
There are times when a coach has to throw everything he can at a situation.
Chelsea’s disappointing draw with Wolves means that time has come.
