Man Utd eye transfer for Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo as Valencia replacement
United will not be triggering their 12-month option to extend Antonio Valencia's contract this summer
MANCHESTER UNITED are tracking Juventus defender Joao Cancelo, according to reports in Italy.
Gazzetta dello Sport claims United had scouts at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday to see the right-back in action as Juve beat Napoli to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to 16 points.
Cancelo, 24, has been outstanding for the Serie A giants since his £35million switch from Valencia last year.
The defender has represented Portugal from Under-16 level and has 12 caps for the senior side.
United are looking to add another right-back with club captain Antonio Valencia on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and the club has decided against activating their 12-month option.
Ashley Young and Diogo Dalot are the current favoured options at right-back.
Cancelo is contracted in Turin until 2023 and it will take a huge bid for Juve to consider doing business for a player who only moved to Italy last July.
United are also lining up a £100m bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
But the Premier League side stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.
