Cardiff demand to see Sala transfer paper trail between McKay and Nantes

Agent McKay claims he agreed a ten per cent cut of the £15m deal when he started talks to sell Sala to the Prem side

CARDIFF are demanding to see the paperwork between Willie McKay and Nantes over the transfer of tragic Emiliano Sala.

Agent McKay claims he agreed a ten per cent cut of the £15million deal when he started talks to sell Sala to the Premier League strugglers.

The striker was killed when his light aircraft crashed in the Channel on his way to Wales.

Now the club’s lawyers Capital Law want to see the documents in place between McKay and Nantes to verify his account.

They also want to know if anybody outside of the McKay family was due to be paid any of the proceeds from the transfer.

Although McKay claims he is entitled to a £1.5m cut — based on an agreement with the French club — the deal between Cardiff and Nantes indicates it would be nearer £2m due to clauses in the contract.

Cardiff agreed to pay top-ups to Nantes in the form of bonuses if Sala scored the goals to keep the Bluebirds up.

That would have brought the total fee to £20m.

McKay has spoken out on some of the details of the transfer and begun to answer the club’s ten key questions — which were exclusively revealed by SunSport on Monday.

That decision caught Cardiff by surprise as they had been expecting McKay to go through lawyers but the transfer broker decided to go public.

He claims Cardiff are trying to “throw him under a bus” and went on to say they had acted “without class”.

Sala’s Piper Malibu plane went down in icy conditions on January 21 and pilot Dave Ibbotson has not been found.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch is due to publish its initial report on the disaster on Friday.

Questions that Cardiff are yet to be given answers to, by brokers in the deal or by Nantes, include who made the decision to put Sala on that flight and who owns the aircraft.

It is also claimed there are some inconsistencies in answers over whether Sala was third-party owned and whether the pilot had the correct licence.
