Arsenal to make transfer swoop for N’Zonzi if Monchi comes in as director of football from Roma
The Spanish transfer maestro is said to be competing with Marc Overmars for the Gunners role, and already has his sights on potential additions
ARSENAL could be in the market to sign Steven N'Zonzi from Roma should Monchi become their director of football.
The former goalkeeper is currently in charge of Roma's transfers and he bought N'Zonzi along with him at the start of the season, both men trading Sevilla for the Italian capital.
Should Monchi sign up to head Arsenal's recruitment department, after the behind-the-scenes exits of Ivan Gazidis and Sven Mislintat, believe he will once again turn to N'Zonzi.
The Frenchman was brought to Roma to provide experience at the heart of a young team and has made 28 appearances for the Giallorossi.
However they are aware that, at the age of 30, N'Zonzi's resale value will only diminish and thus a quick turnaround to the Premier League may be their best bet at recovering their £25million.
There is also talk that the player will be very happy to return to England, where he excelled for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
Tottenham are also named in reports as a team tracking N'Zonzi, with Arsenal perhaps clearing the way for their local rivals if Monchi, full name Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, does not arrive in the summer.
Marc Overmars is considered to be the rival name in the running for the director of football role after filling the same position at Ajax for the past six-and-a-half years.
