Stoke flop Jese defends bulky frame during Real Betis unveiling, insisting ‘it’s muscle, not fat’
Former Real Madrid youngster sought to assure fans he was in top shape following his loan switch from PSG
REAL BETIS new-boy Jese has been forced to defend his weight after completing his La Liga return.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward - who flopped on loan at Stoke last season - has put on some timber
But Jese, 25, insists his extra bulk is muscle - not a side effect of months on the sidelines.
He said: "I'm fine, I've been training a lot since the season started. I had a knee injury so I had to build up my legs to protect them, I have muscle, not fat.
"I'm very happy to be in a club like Betis, it's a challenge for me to be here.
"I will give everything I have to help the team and get things right.
"I've got the chills watching how our fans support the team from the stands, I want to thank my team-mates because they are a fantastic group.
"I am very happy because I come to earn my place day by day with a lot of work."
Jese began his career at Real Madrid but failed to live up to initial hype and was sold to PSG in 2016.
He has since played for Las Palmas and Stoke on short-term deals and will have another chance to impress at Betis.
His debut could come against Valencia on Thursday.
