Lingard mocks Man Utd pal Young over infamous bird-poo-in-mouth incident after pigeon flies on to pitch against Leicester
The Red Devils made it nine wins from ten under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the midfielder could not resist the chance to have a cheeky swipe at his team-mate
JESSE LINGARD couldn't resist bringing up team-mate Ashley Young's legendary bird poo gaffe after a pigeon flew on to the pitch at Leicester.
The Manchester United midfielder, 26, took a cheeky swipe on social media with a sly reminder of the time when a bird pooed in Young's mouth.
On the opening day of the 2014/15 season, with United playing Swansea, a bird showed its long-range shooting ability by dropping a pile of muck in Young's mouth.
And five years on, Lingard was not going to let the opportunity pass to remind the former Aston Villa star of the unforgettable moment.
On his Instagram and Twitter accounts, Lingard posted a picture of himself dribbling with the ball during the 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium.
He wrote, "Absolute animal out there today. Glad @Youngy_18 stayed away," accompanied by laughing and poo emojis.
And the posts drew plenty of attention from former team-mates and fans alike.
Ex-Manchester United players Daley Blind and Adnan Januzaj both responded with laughing emojis, as did Bournemouth striker Joshua King and the F2 Freestylers.
One person said: "I swear Lingard is a part-time comedian."
Another added: "He’s guna give you a mouthful in training for this."
Young denied in an interview soon after the incident that a bird had actually pooed in his mouth.
He said: "I can, 100 per cent, absolutely confirm it was not bird poo.
"But I'd love to know who put that video out and how they did it. Or what my reaction might have been if it actually was."
But it does not stop him being the brunt of dressing room banter.
Luke Shaw revealed in 2015 that the Manchester United squad even hung a fake bird above Young's peg - but admitted their team-mate did not take the joke well.
Young and Shaw both played the full match at full-back in Sunday's win while Lingard was replaced by Phil Jones in the 90th minute as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to close out the narrow win.
