MANCHESTER UNITED have picked up four more points than any other team in the Premier League since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over.

The Red Devils have won seven of their last eight league matches following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho guided the club to their worst start to a season in 28 years before he was axed in December.

But since Solskjaer was appointed on a temporary basis, United have won more points and have a better goal difference than any other team in the league

In his eight games, including seven wins and a draw, United have picked up 22 points, scored 20 goals and conceded just six.

This has led to Solskjaer being in contention to get the job permanently.

If the season had started when Solskjaer took over, Spurs would be second with 18 points and Liverpool in third with 16 points.

Manchester City would be fourth, closely followed by Arsenal, Wolves and Chelsea.

Solskjaer has won nine of his first 10 games in all competitions and he is already making plans for next season.

Following the win over Leicester, United are looking to win five successive away games in all competitions for the first time since October 2012 when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.

It took club legend Fergie 19 attempts to win eight matches with United, but the Norwegian boss reached that tally after just eight games.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is one of the names Solskjaer will be competing with to get the Old Trafford job.

But Red Devils fans ruled out the Argentine boss after he dismissed the importance of winning trophies.

Solskjaer has won over the support of fans and Gary Neville insisted his amazing impact has given the club a huge dilemma over who to appoint as manager.

But former United midfielder Paul Ince claimed giving him the job permanently would be a costly mistake.
