Former England international Lennon is injured and last played in mid-December.

And the blow to his knee means he may not be able to play again this campaign.

But Marcelo Bielsa is compiling his background checks on the speedster as he plots a swoop to being the hometown hero back to Leeds.

Lennon joined the Turf Moor outfit a year ago after battling mental health issues with previous employers Everton.

He has cemented himself as a vital member of the Burnley squad since, playing 22 times so far this season, and helped them qualify for Europe last May.

The 31-year-old, who won 21 caps for the Three Lions, still has one-and-a-half-years left on his Clarets contract but could be tempted by an emotional return to his boyhood club.

After progressing through their academy, he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League at that time when he made his first-team debut in 2003.

He left to join Tottenham in 2005, winning the League Cup in 2008, before moving to Everton after a decade of service to Spurs.
