Southgate to fast-track Wan-Bissaka into England squad for upcoming clashes
Three Lions chief has checked out Crystal Palace's exciting right-back THREE times in the last month
GARETH SOUTHGATE plans to fast-track Crystal Palace starlet Aaron Wan-Bissaka into his Three Lions squad.
England boss Southgate has checked out the exciting right-back THREE times in the last month.
He also sent Under-21 coach Aidy Boothroyd to meet Wan-Bissaka to assure the defender he is part of his plans.
And the 21-year-old is now in line for a senior squad place and a possible starting spot in the double-header with the Czech Republic and Montenegro next month.
Wan-Bissaka also qualifies for the DR Congo and played for their youth side before representing England at U20 and U21 level.
But he is keen to become a full international with the Three Lions and calling him up now would avoid repeating the losses of Victor Moses and Wan-Bissaka’s fellow Eagle Wilfried Zaha.
Both stars had dual qualification and ended up playing for Nigeria and Ivory Coast respectively, despite turning out for under-age England sides.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier are currently jostling for the right-back slot, but Southgate sees Wan-Bissaka as a starter soon.
The England chief is a huge fan of the youngster’s all-round game and wants to make sure he commits his future by winning a senior cap.
Meanwhile, Palace will go back in for Chelsea’s Gary Cahill this summer.
They could not offer the centre-back terms in the January window because Fulham’s move for Scott Dann, 31, stalled.
Cahill, 33, will be a free agent at the end of the season and wants to stay in London.
