EDIN DZEKO could be facing a huge ban after the striker disgracefully appeared to spit in a referee's face tonight.

The Roma star, 32, was given his marching orders for the vile act as his side were walloped 7-1 by Fiorentina in the Italian Cup.

Dzeko’s moment of madness occurred with Roma already trailing 4-1 with just 18 minutes to go in Florence.

And the hosts showed no mercy against their ten-man opponents as they inflicted three further blows to advance to the semi-finals.

Now the Bosnian, a Premier League winner at Manchester City, is set to be hit hard by the authorities after his shocking behaviour towards the official.

Florentina hotshot Federico Chiesa, 21, struck his first career to set up a tie with either Juventus or Atalanta.

Chiesa grabbed a brace inside 18 minutes before Aleksandar Kolarov got the visitors back in the game.

Luis Muriel soon restored the home team’s two-goal advantage as they led 3-1 at the break.

But things began to turn sour for Roma after Marco Benassi fired in a fourth for Fiorentina moments before Dzeko’s madness.

Chiesa soon secured his treble before Giovanni Simeone helped himself to two late on to seal the emphatic triumph.

Dzeko, who only entered the action at the interval, may avoid a suspension from Serie A action if it emerges he did spit at referee Gianluca Manganiello.

It looked like he had initially been given his marching orders for dissent for arguing with the whistleblower over the award of a free-kick to the opposition.

However, footage from a different camera angle soon emerged and it looked to show the towering frontman gobbing at the ref before the red card came out.

And if that is included in the referee’s report then Dzeko could be looking at a lengthy ban – although the Coppa Italia is considered a separate competition to Serie A, meaning any ban might not apply to the league.
