West Ham ask Chelsea about Giroud transfer following Higuain’s arrival
Despite the French striker being a popular player in the dressing room his first-team chances will be limited
WEST HAM are interested in signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
The Frenchman has been shunted further down the pecking order now the Blues have loaned in Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus.
Giroud has failed to impress since he joined Chelsea last season from Arsenal.
In fact, boss Maurizio Sarri has even preferred to play Eden Hazard as a "false 9" ahead of the French international.
And now, according to , West Ham could make their move for the 32-year-old.
Their interest will will have picked up even more so after an injury to their star striker Marko Arnautovic.
The Austrian international landed awkwardly in the second half of the 3-0 defeat to Wolves following an aerial challenge and was immediately replaced by Javier Hernandez.
Arnautovic - who recently penned a new Hammers deal to fend off interest from China- was making his first appearance since the 1-0 win against Arsenal on January 12.
But the 29-year-old's return to the starting XI ended in the worst possible way, as he left Molineux on crutches - much to the dismay of boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Giroud would provide that presence for West Ham up top, with continued doubts over whether Andy Carroll is fit enough to lead the line.
Lucas Perez and Hernandez have failed to convince management that they are the answer in the long-term too.
