EVERTON have turned down a £25million bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Idrissa Gueye.

The French giants made their approach over the weekend but have been rebuffed and will now consider increasing their offer before the transfer deadline.

Marco Silva wants to keep the Senegal international, 29, at Goodison and has played him regularly this season, including yesterday’s FA Cup defeat at Millwall.

But PSG are set to make further attempts to land Gueye in the next four days to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

SunSport revealed last month that Gueye was on a shortlist of midfielders as an alternative to Frenkie De Jong, who will join Barcelona.

Southampton’s Mario Lemina and Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure are among the players they like, along with Gueye, who could arrive and still comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

But it is the Everton midfielder who they have made a firm approach for in the final days of the transfer window.

Everton would make a big profit on the £7.1million they paid Aston Villa two-and-a-half years ago, although he also has three full seasons left on his current contract meaning his value will hold.

But the lure of PSG - and returning to France - could tempt Gueye after starting his senior career with Lille before getting his move to Villa.
