Kante, signed for just £30m from Leicester in 2016, put pen to paper on a £290,000-a-week contract, which meant he surpassed Eden Hazard as the club's highest earner.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba was originally on £220,000 per week when he returned to Old Trafford three years ago.

But just like his World Cup-winning team-mate Kante, he boosted his wages to £290,000 to take his earnings to £15m a year.

Then just £20,000 behind the French pair comes 31-year-old Higuain, sixth on the list and therefore second at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard slips down to third now with his £200,000-per-week wages matching fellow Premier League stars Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.
