Emiliano Sala: What is the latest update on Cardiff transfer target and who did Argentine play for?

CARDIFF are growing increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of Argentine transfer target Emiliano Sala.

The Bluebirds signed the striker for £15m on Saturday but he has now gone missing.

What is the latest update on Emiliano Sala?

Emiliano Sala is feared dead after a plane carrying him went missing over the Channel Islands.

Sala, 28, was onboard the Piper Malibu plane with one other person, when it lost contact at 8.30pm near the Casquets lighthouse, off Alderney.

Air Traffic Control confirmed the plane was travelling from Nantes in Western France to Cardiff when it vanished, with severe weather warnings in place across the country at the time.

Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman said today: “We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night.

"We are awaiting confirmation before we can say anything further. We are very concerned for the safety of Emiliano Sala."

An update was issued by Guernsey Police at 11.45m, as they tweeted: "11.45am update

"So far over 1,000sq miles have been searched by a total of five aircraft and two lifeboats. It is being co-ordinated by the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre.

"There has been no trace of the aircraft.

"The search is continuing."

And Sala's parents have also spoken out after the crash.

Dad Horatio, told Argentine TV station Channel 5 News: “A friend told me, I did not know anything, I’m in Rosario, I’m desperate, I hope everything goes well.”

His mother, Mercedes, added: “The plane is from the President of Cardiff City FC, they informed us that the plane had disappeared and that they were looking for it.”

Who did Emiliano Sala play for before joining Cardiff?

Sala was a striker for French side Nantes and had flown back there to say goodbye to his former team-mates.

Before the crash, the Ligue 1 club posted this video tribute to the man who netted 42 goals in 117 games over four years there.

Argentine Sala began his professional career at Bordeaux in 2012, and went onto score one goal in 11 games over three years before moving to Nantes and becoming their key man.

Nantes have postponed their French Cup game following the news of Salah's disappearance.
