Incredibly, the team costing Chelsea just £41.2m received more fan votes - with over 1,000 cast - suggesting the Blues transfer system is broken.

While the alternative line-up leaves plenty to be desired across the back four, its attacking capabilities appear to have swayed supporters.

In the present day, Maurizio Sarri is more often than not forced to deploy Eden Hazard in a false-nine role.

Such is the Italian boss' lack of faith in centre-forwards Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud the Belgian is being played out of position.

Pedro and Willian are often deployed either side of the superstar - but fans seem to prefer the "could have been" front four.

With Romelu Lukaku leading the line, backed up by Salah, De Bruyne and Callum Hudson-Odoi, it's easy to see why too.

Of the alternative XI, only THREE stars - Andreas Christensen, Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek - are currently at the club.

But the rest of the line-up reads like a Who's Who of what could have been - with De Bruyne easily the Blues' biggest regret in recent decades.
