Man Utd ratings: Rashford justifies selection again, Pogba has long forgotten about Mourinho and thank goodness for De Gea
Rashford scored the only goal of the game a minute before half-time against Tottenham as Solskjaer made it six wins in a row
MANCHESTER UNITED were indebted to David De Gea and Marcus Rashford as they secured a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Tottenham.
That means interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set a new club record of six straight wins in all competitions since taking over the managerial helm.
Rashford scored the only goal of the game a minute before half-time when he coolly beat Hugo Lloris with a fine finish.
And it was another delicious ball through from French midfielder Paul Pogba that set it up.
But David De Gea will get the plaudits for a stunning performance between the sticks where he made a number of world class blocks with every part of his body.
Here's how SunSport viewed the players' performances at Wembley.
DAVID DE GEA
The Spaniard did not have a lot to do in the first half but the string of saves he produced after the break helped break Tottenham’s spirit and ensure United returned from Wembley with all three points.
Underlined his position as one of the world’s best keepers.
ASHLEY YOUNG
The captain had a tough afternoon at right-back dealing with Son Heung-min, who was Tottenham’s most liveliest and dangerous player.
But Young acquitted himself well, using all of his experience to keep tabs on the South Korean as best as possible.
VICTOR LINDELOF
Whisper it quietly, but there may actually be a half-decent central defender here - something none of us thought we would ever say after some of the calamitous displays early in his United career. But he looked quite assured alongside Jones.
PHIL JONES
It looked ominous for the much-maligned defender when he was outmuscled at a corner by Kane.
But Jones, to his credit, stuck to his task and was one of the reasons Kane had to drop deep to find space.
LUKE SHAW
Looked as though he was going to get overloaded by Kieran Trippier in the early stages but he reacted well and closed the door on Tottenham’s progress down their right flank.
NEMANJA MATIC
Reacted quickly to block kane’s shot at a first-half corner. But for a midfield anchorman there were times he dropped so deep he ended up becoming part of the defence instead of protecting it.
ANDER HERRERA
Another industrious display by the hard-working Spaniard, who almost harried Dele Alli out of the game single-handedly. He would not have enjoyed being nutmegged twice in quick succession for the break, though.
JESSE LINGARD
The England star provided plenty of energy for United but not much end product. He missed a great chance to open the scoring early on when he blazed over the bar.

PAUL POGBA
Are you watching Jose? The Frenchman continued his renaissance under Solskjaer by producing a simply stunning pass for Rashford’s goal.
Moments like that make you wonder with disbelief how Mourinho failed to get a tune out of him.
ANTHONY MARTIAL
The one-time Tottenham target caused the hosts problems when he ran at them. But unfortunately he
did not do it often enough and when he did get into promising positions his execution left a lot to be desired.
MARCUS RASHFORD
The England striker was having a quiet afternoon until Pogba’s pass picked him out for the goal.
His run was excellent but his finish was even more so as he fired the ball in the only place Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris did not have covered.

The big Belgian striker, expected to start by many, replaced Martial in the 73rd minute and gave the Tottenham defence something extra to think about.

The Portuguese defender was sent on for Lingard in the 83rd minute to help thwart Tottenham as they surged forward in search of an equaliser.
