DERBYSHIRE police were called to investigate a man accused of spying on Frank Lampard’s training session ahead of Friday’s clash with Leeds.

Derby County take on Marcelo Bielsa’s men with both teams hoping to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

It is regarded as one of the key fixtures of the Championship season.

But nobody was expecting a dramatic ‘spygate’ scenario to play out in the build-up to the match.

A suspicious man was seen lurking around County’s training ground fence in possession of binoculars, spare clothes and pliers.

And Lampard was forced to stop his players from practicing their final session, with the police called as a result.

It’s said the man was caught with a pair of binoculars, pliers and a change of clothes.

A tweet from the Derby Response Unit read: “Officers have just attended the Training Ground for @dcfcofficial after a suspicious male was seen at the perimeter fence.

“Excellent searching conducted & male was located. All checks above board!

“Keeping the team safe to bring home a win against #LUFC on 11th #SpyingIsCheating.”

It marks another worrying turn for Lampard who has been battling a man who has been stalking his wife Christine, 39.

The former England international had to flee a staff party after his burglar alarm went off at his Derbyshire farmhouse before Christmas.

Weirdo Christof King, 39, had previously turned up at the couple’s main £11million home in London and also sent Loose Women star Christine sinister tweets and letters.
