Jokanovic has been without a job since he was sacked by Fulham in the middle of November.

The Serbian had guided the Cottagers to the Premier League last season after beating Aston Villa in the playoff final.

But according to Telegraph's John Percy, Stoke have failed to convince Jokanovic to step back into management.

He wrote on Twitter: "Slavisa Jokanovic was a contender to replace Gary Rowett, but understand it will not be happening. Jokanovic is not ready to return to management just yet, after his sacking at Fulham."

The board will continue to assess their options with Luton gaffer Nathan Jones in the mix.

Jones got the Hatters promoted to League One last season in his first permanent job after a brief spell as caretaker at Brighton.

And he has performed another impressive job this time round, with the club currently second in League One as they look to move straight through the division.

The board are believed to be attracted to his side's threat in front of goal with Luton leading the charts with 49 in 26 matches.

David Moyes remains in contention and the unemployed Scot is thought to be relishing the chance to take over at the bet365.
