Adrien Rabiot ‘agrees terms with Barcelona’ but won’t leave PSG this month

France midfielder closes on £9m-a-year move but Barca are happy to wait until summer when they can get him for free

ADRIEN RABIOT’S planned switch to Barcelona has taken a twist – with reports the France midfielder has agreed terms but will NOT leave PSG this month.

The 23-year-old, who was a shock omission from the World Cup winners’ squad for Russia, is thought to have finalised a £9million-a-season, five-year Barca contract.

Adrien Rabiot is thought to have agreed deal with Barcelona and would strongly prefer a move there ahead of interest from Premier League giants

The La Liga champions have denied a deal has been completed after they beat off rivals like Tottenham and Arsenal for the ex-Manchester City youth player.

But Rabiot‘s mother and agent, Veronique, is said to have been negotiating with Barca for the past week.

And PSG reportedly still hope Barca will sign him in the current transfer window.

That seems unlikely, though, as the Spanish giants would prefer to nab him for free when his contract runs out in the summer.

Central midfielder Adrien Rabiot has six caps for France but missed the World Cup

Rabiot has become a controversial figure, never quite living up to expectations of being a dominating, driving force through the middle for both PSG and France.

That was summed up when France boss Didier Deschamps only named Rabiot as a World Cup reserve – prompting the six-cap player to even turn down that role.

Rabiot said then: “I regret to be caricatured as a young, immature player unable to measure the scope of his actions.

“I am a competitor without qualms, but I am also a man, and as such I would have liked to be considered as such.”

He clearly believes he deserves the biggest stage – and none would come greater than the Nou Camp.
