Pulisic asked to stay at Dortmund for rest of year to boost chances at Chelsea

The Blues' new £58million American ace believes he'll have more chance of impressing Maurizio Sarri with a fresh start in the summer

NEW Chelsea recruit Christian Pulisic asked to stay in Germany for the rest of the season as he believes he'll have a better chance of impressing Maurizio Sarri with a fresh start in the summer.

The £58million American will stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of this campaign to give himself the best possible chance of getting into his new side's starting XI.

According to , a request to stay in Germany was submitted by Pulisic so that he could demonstrate his ability.

The 20-year-old wanted to stick with Dortmund for the remainder of the season so that he could come flying out of the blocks during Chelsea's pre-season in the summer and kick off his first season with them afterwards.

Chelsea are unlikely to need convincing of his fine form as they paid £58million to bring him on board, despite Sarri defiantly stating that he had no idea Chelsea were signing the midfielder.

The former Napoli boss revealed he had been asked for his opinion on the star, but didn't know they were working to sign him.

He said: "I didn't know anything. The club asked my opinion, my opinion was positive.

"Today I have known that the deal is done but I didn't know anything."

Dortmund are fully away of the young star's potential and their sporting director thinks he will thrive in the Premier League.

Speaking to ESPN, Michael Zorc said: "He's a lad who comes with that typically American self-confidence.

"Many of his characteristics will help him in England where everything is just a little bit more intense than in the Bundesliga.

"He has the pace, he's got the dribbling, he wants to get ahead at all costs. I don't know a single reason why he wouldn't make it there."

Pulisic himself is looking forward to the challenges that come hand-in-hand with the Premier League and he believes he will fit in just fine at Stamford Bridge.

The American wonderkid has insisted that 'Sarriball' suits him well and played a part in his decision to choose to move to Chelsea.

Liverpool were reportedly disappointed to not the land the American ace, who was one of the most sought-after young players in Europe.
