Arsenal may bait Real Madrid into Isco transfer by offering Mesut Ozil
The North London club have had their eye on the Spanish playmaker for a while, but they may now be able to move ahead of their competitors by offering Ozil in exchange
ARSENAL could well be involved in another swap deal, but this time with Real Madrid as they look to exchange Mesut Ozil for Isco.
The North London club have been monitoring the situation between the La Liga giants and the 26-year-old playmaker and could now offer their out-of-favour midfielder in exchange for the Spanish star.
Isco is keen to move away from the Bernabeu in January, as he has fallen down the pecking order under new boss Santiago Solari.
Sunsport understands that Chelsea were hoping to leap ahead of Arsenal with a big offer for Isco, but news of offering Ozil in return for the midfielder could put the Gunners in a stronger position.
Solari and chairman Florentino Perez are in agreement that Isco needs to be sold, as he has made just 11 appearances and was booed by the home crowd in their Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.
According to the , Real Madrid are open to the idea of a swap, as Ozil enjoyed a successful stint at the Bernabeu, but any deal could still involve a substantial fee for Arsenal too.
Arsenal's transfer funds are expected to be limited in January, but the offer of Ozil may well help them bring in fresh blood without having to splash too much cash.
They will be hoping they can bring Isco to North London, to keep him out of their rivals' clutches.
Chelsea are in the market for someone to pair up with Eden Hazard, who has been used in the 'false 9' position in recent weeks.
Maurizio Sarri believes Isco could be the perfect foil for the Belgian, so Arsenal will need to move quickly.
Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Isco, but the Spaniard wants out of Real Madrid in January and isn't willing to wait until the summer.
It's the first time Arsenal have been involved in a swap to ensure they freshened up their squad on a shoestring budget.
Arsenal and Manchester United were involved in a swap last season, where Alexis Sanchez moved to Old Trafford and made way for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to move to the Emirates.
