Arsenal blow as Bayern Munich ‘move ahead’ in race for Cengiz Under at Roma

Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are also noted with an interest in the Turkey international winger

BAYERN MUNICH lead the pursuit of Roma's Cengiz Under amid interest from Arsenal and Tottenham, according to reports.

understand the Bundesliga champions are now the front-runners to acquire the Turkey international, who appears destined to leave the Italian capital next summer.

Arsenal and Spurs have both registered an interest while Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all be noted with having an interest.

Under has enjoyed a fruitful second season with Roma, scoring five goals and contributing six assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

But with the Giallorossi outside the Serie A top six, Under might soon feel a move away might be best for his hopes of winning major silverware on a regular basis.

Despite being pursued by clubs from across Europe's major leagues, the winger appears to favour moving to the Premier League.

However, with Roma valuing the player at £45million it remains to be seen whether any potential suitor can be tempted into matching that price, with Arsenal having only submitted an offer of around £29million.

Roma themselves must decide whether to cash-in on the player or retain him in the hope his worth swells further in the coming years.

And director of football Monchi stated last month that decision has not yet been made.

He told : “We haven’t decided anything for Cengiz Under yet. He is very young, he is improving.

"But this is not the right moment to discuss a new contract and he must continue the growth process.

"Let’s leave him in peace to mature at his own pace. What needs to come will come in good time."

Interest from Bayern comes as the club look to prepare for life after Arjen Robben, whose days at the Allianz Arena is coming to an end.

The 34-year-old's contract runs until the end of this season and talks have already been held between the Dutch wideman and PSV Eindhoven over a return to his homeland.
