Jose Mourinho sacked: How does former Man Utd boss’s record compare to David Moyes and Louis van Gaal?

TIME is up for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

The Special One was brought in to address the slump following the tenures of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal - but was his record actually any better?

How does Mourinho's record compare to David Moyes and Louis van Gaal?

JOSE MOURINHO was in charge at United for 144 games in total.

He won 84 of those matches, drew 32 and lost 28 - overall that gives him a relatively healthy win percentage of 58.33.

In comparison, Sir Alex Ferguson ended his 17-year reign with a win percentage of 59.67.

Mourinho does leave the club knowing that he contributed two major trophies, winning the EFL Cup and the Europa League in 2016/17.

David Moyes was the original replacement for his fellow Scot, but found it impossible to fill the shoes of arguably the greatest club manager of all time.

The former Everton boss lasted less than a year at the club, taking charge of just 51 games and winning 27 of those.

Nine draws and 15 defeats ultimately cost him his job, with Moyes finishing his United career with a win percentage of 52.94 and just the Community Shield to show for it.

United fans were delighted when Louis van Gaal took over the reigns, but he proved if anything to be even more of a dud at the Theatre of Dreams.

Lasting almost two years, he won a solitary FA Cup and lost 24 of his 103 games in charge, finishing with a win percentage of 52.43.

When was Jose Mourinho sacked?

THE SPECIAL ONE was given his marching orders early on Tuesday, December 18.

It follows the embarrassingly one-sided defeat to Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp's side ran out comfortable 3-1 winners against a United side lacking energy or goal threat.

Michael Carrick will take training at Carrington for the next two days, whilst an interim coach is set to be appointed until the end of the season.

United bosses are then planning to appoint a permanent successor in the summer.
