Stunning free-kicks from Willian and Giroud salvage point for Chelsea at Vidi
Blues took the lead in Hungary only for Vidi to stun the visitors with a goal either side of half-time before Giroud's heroics
STUNNING free-kicks from Willian and Olivier Giroud salvaged a point for Chelsea at Vidi tonight.
Having rested a hatful of first-teamers, the Blues set about completing their Europa League group stage with a sixth win out of six.
And after a scrappy start, it was Willian who produced the moment of magic to break the deadlock.
The Brazilian star whipped a stunning free-kick into the bottom corner from 20 yards as Chelsea's quest for a 100 per cent group record got off to a flyer.
But Vidi equalised almost immediately as, under two minutes later, Ethan Ampadu nodded the ball into his own net from a dangerous corner.
The Blues suffered another blow just before half-time too, as Alvaro Morata was taken off with what looked like a nasty knee injury.
Things went from bad to worse too early in the second-half, as Loic Nego volleyed a sublime shot past Willy Caballero after a quickfire Vidi counter-attack.
Substitute Olivier Giroud hit back for Chelsea though with 15 minutes remaining as he rifled in an unstoppable free-kick to equalise.
It was the Frenchman's fourth goal in as many Europa League games this season.
Despite huffing and puffing for the final few moments, Chelsea - despite their 80 per cent possession - failed to break the deadlock and 2-2 it finished.
