Jose Mourinho TO STAY as agent Jorge Mendes releases rare statement to counter Manchester United axe rumours

SUPER agent Jorge Mendes has said his client Jose Mourinho is staying at Old Trafford amid speculation regarding his future.

The 55-year-old is under huge pressure from the fans with the Red Devils languishing eighth in the table following their 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Despite Mendes' claims, SunSport understands that United are prepared to fork out £40million to bring Maurico Pochettino to the Theatre of Dreams.

The Argentinian is the club's number one target next summer, and believe they can lure him away from his pots at Tottenham.

But in a statement supplied by the , Mendes rubbished the reports, where he stated United are firmly behind the Portuguese gaffer.

Mendes, who also represents the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea, said: "There have been more rumours of Jose Mourinho leaving Manchester United.

"It’s totally untrue. Jose is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him.

"He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project.”

Mourinho is tied down with the club until 2020, but due to a clause in his contract, he could be sacked on the cheap should United fail to secure Champions League football.

The ex-Chelsea boss has once again lowered expectations after his side were lucky to snatch a draw against the Gunners.

United are without a win in the top-flight in their last four league games, picking up three points out of a possible 12.

They face Fulham at Old Trafford tomorrow as they look to climb up the table.
