Cambridge United sack manager Joe Dunne after terrible run of results
The League Two side find themselves 21st in the table after a string of poor form
CAMBRIDGE UNITED have sacked manager Joe Dunne after a terrible run of form.
The League Two club said in a statement that results “dictated a need for change”.
Graham Daniels, the club's Director of Football, said in a statement: "It is never easy to part company with a Head Coach - particularly someone who has played a number of significant roles at the Club over several years and for whom everyone at Cambridge United has great affection and respect.
"Results have however dictated the need for change. We believe we have the talent in this squad to be further up the table.
“Whilst the team has shown its ability in patches during the season we have struggled to find consistency.
“As a result the Board came to the conclusion that the team would benefit from a change of leadership.
"We have already started the search to recruit a successor to Joe.”

The club have said that assistant manager Mark Bonner will take charge on an interim basis over the coming weeks - starting with next weekend's game against Tranmere.
Cambridge have mustered just five league wins from 20 under Dunne this season, putting the club in danger of dropping out of the Football League. They currently sit 21st in the table – six points off the bottom.
Dunne, 45, could argue things were turning around, with a run of three straight wins at the end of October into November.
But the three most recent games, including the midweek loss to midtable Crewe, was enough for the board to act.
They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league Guiseley last month.
Dunne, who was only appointed in May, thanked the club for the opportunity and wished "all the staff, the players and the fans of Cambridge United every success for the future."
