England axe fuelling Sam Allardyce’s charge towards Ireland job
Big Sam is desperate to take over the struggling international side after seeing his time as Three Lions boss cut short in dramatic style
SAM ALLARDYCE wants the Republic of Ireland job.
Big Sam, 64, believes he has unfinished business in international football after his short-lived stint as England manager.
And he sees Ireland as a country he can put back on the football map.
Martin O’Neill and No 2 Roy Keane left by mutual consent on Wednesday.
They had not won a competitive game in 2018 and were relegated from their Nations League group.
Allardyce is remembered in Ireland for winning promotion as player-manager of Limerick back in 1992.
But he faces stiff competition from Mick McCarthy who wants the job for a second time and is set to meet FAI bosses this weekend. Robbie Keane is also interested.
