Players from both teams joined in on the mayhem as the situation quickly descended into chaos.

Ashmore was the subject of racist abuse from opposition fans last season - with a 59-year-old Eastleigh supporter recently fined £650 and ordered to pay £600 compensation to the 28-year-old.

Ebbsfleet - who are unbeaten in their last six games - tweeted of the incident: "But there's a fracas in the crowd now.

"Referee trying to restore order with players standing by close in."

Before adding: "That now seems to have eased. Hopefully nothing further will come of that."

Fans were in total shock at what they witnessed, with one tweeting: "Never witnessed a scene like that, Ebbsfleet keeper has done an absolute Cantona, jumping the hoardings into the fans.

"If a fan had jumped on the pitch, they’d have been arrested. He can’t be all there, head gone!"

While another said: "Not the worst 0-0 I've been to, but things certainly livened up after the match when the Ebbsfleet keeper decided to jump into the home end and take on the Wood Army!"

Another stated: "Ebbsfleet were a disgrace. Keeper to get banned. Arms flying everywhere. Cannot jump over the fence into the fans in any circumstance."

Ebbsfleet currently sit 14th in the table, while Boreham Wood lay in tenth spot.
