MANCHESTER CITY star Fabian Delph will captain England against USA tomorrow night in Wayne Rooney's farewell match at Wembley.

And in a special tribute to the DC United forward, Gareth Southgate has revealed that the Three Lions record goalscorer will wear the number 10 jersey.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Dave Sarachan's side, Delph, 28, praised the ex-Manchester United ace.

He said: "When I first came into the England set-up, Wayne made me welcome and as soon as he comes on the pitch I will give him the armband back.

"We will give him a guard of honour. It will be a huge night for Wayne and we will make it special for him.

"We will honour him for the achievements he has made."

While England boss Southgate has lauded Rooney, and has hailed his impact on the squad since he made his debut in 2003.

He said: "All our group have huge respect for Wayne and they think it is fitting he wears the number 10 and that it is a special night."

While he also added: "Look at what he has lived through and the performances he gave and the big goals he scored - and the pressure he had to take - was an incredible career.

"I know all the staff were delighted to have him here and hopefully he has felt that warmth. I know the reaction of the fans will be very special.

"There will be some debuts - and it is a brilliant reward for Fabian to be captain. He is a huge leader.

"There will be a lot of talent on the pitch. They won't be experienced but it will be a good test for our guys."

Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson is expected to make his debut for England, while Jadon Sancho in expected to make his first start for the senior side.

It is the first meeting between England and America since the two countries played a 1-1 draw in the group stages of the 2010 World Cup.
