Arsenal star Danny Welbeck reveals future plans after horrific ankle injury that required surgery
The English striker, 27, was forced to undergo surgery after his ankle was contorted in the wrong direction during the Europa League clash
DANNY WELBECK has issued an injury update after the horrific ankle injury he picked up against Sporting Lisbon that forced him under the knife.
The English striker, 27, missed the 1-1 draw against Wolves after giving the Gunners' pre-match rousing team talk from his hospital bed.
Arsenal confirmed that Welbeck underwent successful surgery over the weekend, but did not provide a timeframe on his comeback.
Welbeck tweeted: "Back home... Thanks for all the love and support.
"No doubt I will be back stronger than ever before.
"Recovery grind starts now."
Why Danny Welbeck's injury has put Unai Emery's transfer plans into turmoil
By MARK IRWIN
UNAI EMERY is having to rethink his transfer plans as he faces up to being without Danny Welbeck for the rest of the season.
The Arsenal medical team fear the England striker could also have suffered ligament damage and the likelihood is that he will be out of action for at least six months.
And with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, there is a strong possibility that Welbeck could have played his final game for the club.
His long-term absence leaves Emery desperately short of attacking options for Arsenal’s fight on four fronts.
And now the Arsenal boss could be forced to step up his £45million pursuit of Lille forward Nicolas Pepe in the January transfer window.

Welbeck received backing from Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan after going under the knife.
Morgan tweeted: "Good luck with your rehab, @DannyWelbeck - you're one of the nicest guys in football & we're all rooting for you."
Arsenal signed the forward from Manchester United after being frozen out by Louis van Gaal at the club where he came through the academy.
He has scored 32 goals in four seasons at the Emirates, but has been mostly a benchwarmer this season behind Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Iwobi, who have all been in scintillating form.
