Arsenal star Danny Welbeck targeted by Crystal Palace for £10m in January transfer window
Former Man United striker is very much a back-up at the Emirates for with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him
STRUGGLING Crystal Palace are weighing up a £10million New Year’s bid for Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck, 27, is out of contract at the Emirates at the end of the season and has yet to be offered a new deal by the club.
And Eagles boss Roy Hodgson believes the England striker could be the man to bring the goals his team desperately need.
Unai Emery is happy for Welbeck to remain part of his Arsenal squad for the rest of the season and provide attacking back-up to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
But the club are ready to listen to offers in January because they are reluctant to allow him to leave for nothing in the summer, particularly as they already set to miss out on a large fee for Aaron Ramsey.
And the opportunity of regular first team football could be enough to convince Welbeck to move across London.
He has started just one Premier League game this season yet has still scored five goals in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
Hodgson knows Welbeck from his time as England boss, when he gave the player 25 of his 42 international caps so far.

His Palace team have only scored eight goals in their 11 Premier Leagues this season and are currently just two points above the relegation zone. Welbeck, meanwhile, has scored 5 goals in 6 games (with 7 more as a sub). The number 23 has made only one Premier League start.
Welbeck, who cost Arsenal £16million when Arsene Wenger signed him from Manchester United in 2014, currently earns about £75,000-a-week.
Palace would have to at least match that salary to convince Welbeck to join their relegation battle but know that Premier League survival would more than justify the cost.
