Manchester United star David De Gea fails to dispel exit fears as Juventus eye free transfer
MANCHESTER UNITED star David De Gea has failed to reassure Jose Mourinho he is committed to the club.
Last night, SunSport revealed the Special One is worried about losing his star stopper on a free transfer to Juventus.
The Italian giants have become masters of snapping up top talent for nothing and are thought to be hot on the Spanish No1.
Speaking ahead of this weekend's game against Everton, De Gea did little to reassure his boss either.
Ahead of the Old Trafford clash, De Gea said: "What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on.
"[That] is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction.
"What matters is focusing on football.
"We have an important game against Everton and we have some big fixtures over the coming months.
"I think that's what matters, rather than thinking about anything else."
De Gea's current contract expires at the end of the season, with United having the option to extend it by a further year.
But an Old Trafford source admitted: “De Gea played against his future club on Tuesday.
“Juve are experts in intelligent deals. If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho himself, when asked if De Gea is the long-term option at United, said: "I am not confident.
"Only the club, David and his people can answer that.
"My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United.
"If the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David."
