The England new boy left for Borussia Dortmund in summer 2017 after failing to agree a new deal at the Etihad.

He has been a revelation in the German league - earning himself a first England cap in the goalless draw against Croatia this month.

City will be given a chance to bid if Dortmund ever decide to sell Sancho - and have a deal to get a sizeable sell on fee if they don't sign him themselves.

But Guardiola says the fact he chose to leave Manchester in the first place means it is difficult to see a way back.

"I don’t know, in football you never say no, but I don’t know. I think when he decided to move on from here it is because he doesn’t want to be here.

"When he doesn’t want to be here I think he’s not looking forward to coming back here.

"That is what I think right now. Maybe in the future – new club, new managers – but I don’t know.

"We know what we have done with Jadon. We did absolutely everything and he decided to move on to Germany so all the best."

Guardiola said the route the 18-year-old has taken - leaving England to play top level football abroad - is one other youngsters should consider.

He said: "He’s doing really well. He’s started his career and hopefully he can achieve what he was looking for.

"It’s a good sign for England that players are going there because it’s important for the future. I’m glad he’s playing well."
